About Us
In 1950, a mission of the Russian Orthodox Church was established in Madison, where it operated for eighteen years. The mission was housed within the building of the Greek Orthodox Church. A Russian priest would travel from Milwaukee every two weeks on Saturdays to conduct services. In 1968, the mission’s activities were suspended.
In January 2013—with the blessing of His Grace Peter, Bishop of Cleveland, and with the fraternal permission of the then-rector of the Greek church, Father Michael Vanderhoef—the Russian mission was re-established within that same Greek church, under the pastoral care of Archpriest Vasily Kuzmich, rector of the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Milwaukee. On Saturday, January 12—following a 45-year hiatus—the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated in Church Slavonic.
Currently, the mission continues its existence under the pastoral care of Father Artemy Makartetskyi. Divine services are held twice a month. The parish continues to welcome new members. The community maintains a parish choir, directed by a professional choirmaster. Following the services, parishioners gather for fellowship over a agape meal, lovingly organized and prepared by the parish sisterhood.
Our mission expresses its deep gratitude to the rector of the Greek parish, Father Christodoulos, and to the Church Council of the Greek church for their gracious provision of their church building for the celebration of divine services.

Father Artemii Makartetskyi has been ministering to our parish since 2024. Father Artemii was born in Chernihiv, Ukraine. He graduated from the Poltava Missionary Theological Seminary in 2000.
In addition to caring for our parish, Father Artemii is the rector of the Orthodox children's school at the Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Protection of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in Chicago.
Under Father Artemii's care, our mission has gained stability, expanded, and attracted new parishioners.
